The role of pricing in window cleaning

When choosing a window cleaner, what importance should you put to the price? Should you choose the cheapest window cleaner to the exclusion of other factors like reliability, professionalism, quality of workmanship, and trust?

Let's face it, we all know and agree that you get what you pay for. If price was the most important factor, we would all be wearing the cheapest clothes, live in the most inexpensive home, drive the cheapest car, have the cheapest TV, and by all our food for the lowest price. Fact is, we do not. We know that we get what we pay for.

When it comes to services to, you know that you get what you pay for. Just look at what happened to many unsuspecting Canadians a few months ago with the grounding of now bankrupt Zoom Airlines. This airline offered low priced air travel to places to Britain, thus attracting many customers, however, they couldn't pay their bills, and in time, they couldn't deliver on their service, flying, leaving many angry and frustrated and with no way to get home, half way across the world.

Add to the list other low cost airlines like Canada3000, JetsGo and others, when you pay too little, the service provide eventually cannot deliver. It is far more bitter to experience a failure of service than to pay a little bit more and not be unsatisfied.

Granted you may say, what about window cleaning? It is just that, window cleaning? Why should one be wary of a very low prices for window cleaning?

Well, as my experience as a window cleaner for six years, I have seen a lot. Many low cost window cleaners eventually like Zoom Airlines fail to provide service. Although there are many fine window cleaners, there are many fly-by-night ones too. For a while they may provide service, but suddenly, without warning, they may disappear when something "better" comes along. Others may only come erratically when they need some cash. Leaving your windows to become filthy between cleans. Some might seem to provide regular service, but very often, they may skip windows, clean only half of some windows. Leave dirty water on the ledges, or use shoddy equipment that leaves streaks, lines, and dirt on the window. Again they are not delivering.

These same window cleaners may be frightening to your customers, or yourself. They may be unshaven, have long hair, be unkind, unprofessional, or smoke in front of your store.

Some low cost window cleaners fall into other categories, there may be at times that the pricing for window cleaning may be so low, because a window cleaners has not raised his prices for decades. But the problem with that is, when the person gets sick, he has no one to take over his work, leaving you vulnerable.

So as you instinctively already know, you get what you pay for. Price should not be the only factor when deciding to award a window cleaning contract. At times our company may be the lowest bid you receive, and at times it may be the highest too.

However, we provide the needed quality and service that you deserve. We will provide a list of references when providing a proposal, so that you can see why others trust us. Our cleaners are always clean cut, polite, professional, courteous, and kind.

As a small company, often I myself do the window cleaning, and you can see my picture at the top of this blog.

We price so that we can service you for the months and years to come. As we grow, we can continue to provide reliable window cleaning.

What does that mean? Well, we will provide a schedule that fills your needs, lets say for example once a week, and week after week, month after month, we will be there, cleaning your windows like clockwork.

We also don't skimp on equipment. We use the best equipment, and maintain it well, so that your windows don't get streaks, lines, or left over dirt.

Stores from time to time have emergencies. Head office is going to visit them, or some person, spit or defaced the windows with eggs. When you need the windows cleaned quickly, just call us, and we provide emergency window cleaning. A service that a low-cost provider finds hard to match.

Finally it is easy to communicate with us. Often when you call us, we will answer the phone, no voicemail hell! When you do have to leave a message we call back promptly and return all calls.

So now you know the importance of not choosing on price alone. Other factors come into play like is the window cleaner have a record (with his past customers) of being reliable, trustworthy, doing quality work, and being a true professional.

Ask questions, ask for referrals, look at how he presents himself, ask his customers how they enjoyed using his company.

If you are in the Toronto area, call our company. You will be pleased with our service.

Do we clean windows in the rain?

The whole of North America is thinking about rain this weekend, as Ike has plowed into Texas leaving a lot of rain and damage. It may make you wonder whether we clean windows in the rain.

Of course, our company is committed to the highest standards of quality, we will never do anything that would not leave your windows clean.

On the few days each year where there is a very significant amount of rain, torrential rain, and thunderstorms, we do not clean any windows.

For houses, often the rain might start unexpectedly once we start work on your house. At that time, we may go inside and wait for the rain to stop and clean the inside windows. Often the rain would abate allowing us to clean the outside windows or we may return later to finish the job.

Many of the stores and commercial properties have overhang over the windows, signs or awnings that prevent any water from touching the window, even on days of heavy rain. This allows us to clean most of our commercial properites even on rainy days. Rain is simply not a factor.

Often people ask us why we clean windows when rain is forecast for that evening or the day after. They believe that the rain is going to ruin the glass, making it dirty immediately. Perhaps you feel that way. Many do. However, rain on a clean windows, beads and runs off the window, not causing it to be recked by dirt. Clean windows can often stay clean, even when not protected by the rain for several weeks or months.

You may wonder, why don't you just take every rainy day off? That's a good question. That would create a nightmare as there are only so many days in the week and month. Inevitably on some rainy weeks, we may have to cancel a whole week of work. This would affect you in that we would not be able to provide the reliable, and consistent window cleaning we promise. There would also be a danger that your windows would start to look quite dirty, creating a bad first impression to your customers who notice the windows first. It is simply not practical for us to cancel large amounts of work on rainy weeks, and not in your best interest.

Again, our company is commited to quality first. We don't clean when we feel that there is no point. If you are still worried about windows that we clean on a rainy day, and you are not happy with the results, just call us back - at 647-409-8144 and we will fix it for no extra charge.

Hello

Hello. My name is Michael Polsky. The Author of this blog, and the founder and president of M&M Professional Window Cleaners Limited.

Let me say a few words about myself. I have been window cleaning many ordinary and fine stores in the Toronto area since 2002. I have worked in neighbourhoods like Agincourt, Scarborough Village, Forest Hill, the Entertainment Districts and many more.

I have almost exclusively cleaned stores and commercial lowrise properties. I don't do highrise properties or midrise properties.

In 2008 I changed my company name to M&M Professional Window Cleaners. My focus has been the same focus I have had since I started window cleaning. Providing dependable window cleaning, cleaning windows to perfection, being easy to reach, and providing emergency window cleaning for those times the windows just need to be cleaned. Like a head office visit.

As my business grows, my business model will stay the same. You need a reliable window cleaner. You want a clean cut, polite person to clean your windows. I am clean cut, and any one that our team will only be clean cut, polite and superb window cleaners.

Currently I do much of the window cleaning for M&M. Mark Strange does residential window cleaning for our company which we added in spring 2008.

We clean fine clients like Shoppers Drug Mart, Edward Jones, and Master Mechanic. However, we can clean the smallest corner store, to the largest format big box store.

We clean houses too, cleaning windows, tracks, sills, frames and screens. We can even rebuild screens for you.
